The Department of Energy (DoE), continues its collaboration with the Department of Community Development (DCD), to support the Tadbeer initiative, which operates under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
The DoE is proud to announce the ongoing success of the Tadbeer program, the innovative initiative that provides sustainable energy and water use training to all domestic helpers in Abu Dhabi. It empowers them to support households across the Emirate by reducing their environmental impact and to save money on their utility bills.
Since October 2022, over 2500 domestic helpers have received the water and energy conservation training. In 2023, over three thousand households will benefit from this initiative. This is in line with the DoE’s commitment to promote energy and water efficiencies with innovative technology and methodologies in the production to distribution phases, while educating consumers on conservation and reuse.
The success of the Tadbeer initiative is a testament to the strong collaboration between the DOE, DCD, and MOHRE. It demonstrates that by working together, Abu Dhabi and Federal government entities can provide the community with the best possible support and services.
Commenting on the achievements of the initiative, Eng. Ahmed Juma Al Falasi, Acting Executive Director of Energy Efficiency at DoE, said: “This initiative is a key step towards Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management s 2030 strategy for a more sustainable environment. Households across Abu Dhabi are now benefiting from this program. The ongoing work identified that domestic helpers can be major enablers of energy and water conservation in the household. I would like to thank our partners at the Department of Community Development and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for collaborating to deliver this program. We are thrilled to see the positive impact that the Tadbeer initiative is having on the people of Abu Dhabi and look forward to continued collaboration on future sustainability and environmentally friendly initiatives. We will continue to implement the directives of the wise leadership of the UAE, which aim to achieve long-term sustainability.”
Commenting on the achievements of the initiative, H.E Eng. Shaikha Alhosani, Executive Director of the Social Monitoring and Innovation Sector at the Department of Community Development said: DCD contributed to the development and organisation of the training programme for domestic helpers in Abu Dhabi, considering that they manage many households. -Domestic helpers are major contributors in supporting minimise of average household consumption by using water and energy more wisely and efficiently; by empowering and equipping them in raising their environmental awareness, we could achieve a significant result. Moreover, being environmentally aware and living sustainably is a habit.
“We believe that appropriate programmes such as this Domestic Helpers Training Programme initiative can promote sustainable changes in behaviour and encourage investments in structural improvements for all community members in Abu Dhabi Emirate to enhance the quality of life, that changes in everyday habits can help to reduce home energy bills and ease pressure on the power grid. Modest behaviour adjustments can, over time, yield substantial energy and water savings on their own. Residential energy demand can be further reduced through “structural” investments.
