The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) convened its annual employee gathering for the year 2025 under the theme " Empowered by You." The forum was attended by His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, DoE Chairman, and His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, DoE Undersecretary, as well as numerous DoE executives and many employees.
Organizing the gathering stems from the DoE's keenness to advance internal corporate dialogue and to show appreciation for its employees' efforts, as they are the bedrock of its progress and excellence. The gathering also represented a significant platform for illuminating the DoE's strategy and its effect on the energy, water, district cooling, and petroleum products sectors, and for presenting the main initiatives and programs that the Department is currently undertaking.
In his remarks at the forum, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, DoE Chairman, stressed that the DoE's strategy is a dedicated commitment to establishing a secure and sustainable sector responsive to the needs of the future. He indicated that the strategy is founded upon four principal objectives, encompassing the securing of supplies at affordable prices, the achievement of efficiency across supply and demand, the reduction of carbon emissions, and the enhancement of the sector's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Furthermore, His Excellency addressed the AD.WE smart platform, launched by the DoE in partnership with the two leading companies "AIQ" and "Presight." He described it as a leading-edge step towards a cohesive future in energy management and a significant advancement in the method of applying artificial intelligence and digital modeling to attain efficiency and sustainability for various energy sources. "We developed this sophisticated platform to be a centralized command center," he added, "linking the electricity and water domains and administering the Emirate's energy ecosystem with high levels of efficiency and reliability."
Concluding his speech, His Excellency remarked: "The employee is the principal force behind every achievement realized to date and all that will be accomplished in the future." He highlighted the DoE's unwavering commitment to establishing a flexible and sophisticated work system that moves with the times and supports Abu Dhabi's leading international position within the energy and water industries.
From his side, His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi stated that the new strategy is the outcome of a wide-ranging collaboration that brought together more than 20 stakeholder entities, with the participation of 140 experts representing diverse sectors, and was informed by the visions of ten CEOs.
Furthermore, His Excellency indicated that the strategy contains aspirational objectives, the most prominent of which are: realizing the objectives of climate neutrality by 2050, expanding the strategic water reserve, advancing energy efficiency across every sector, and cultivating national talent possessing superior digital competencies and skills for the future.
A thorough presentation on the DoE's strategy was delivered by Dr. Shamma Al-Malek, Acting Executive Director of the Strategic Planning Sector. The strategy serves as a comprehensive roadmap with objectives to guarantee security of supplies, improve sustainability, and support the sector's intelligent transformation, as well as to maximize its economic and investment worth.
Dr. Al-Malek also showcased a range of executive support programs, such as those for improving the efficiency of power and water consumption, attaining an energy mix that leads to net-zero emissions, advancing sustainable cooling, improving the application of recycled water, and elevating preventative safety in the petroleum products sector.
A series of interactive events took place during the gathering, which improved the sense of cooperation and connection between employees. This included a knowledge-based competition on the DoE's strategy and priorities, as well as enjoyable group activities on developing skills for teamwork, and a pavilion for quick medical examinations. This demonstrates the DoE’s attention to the quality of its employees' work life and their health and well-being.
Notably, this gathering’s organization is part of the DoE's keenness to solidify an institutional culture built upon empowerment, appreciation, and encouragement. Timed to align with the "Year of Community," the event contributes to the achievement of sustainable excellence and propels the energy and water sector's evolution towards a future that is more resilient, sustainable, and innovative.
