DoE Organises Workshop to Update Regulations of Abu Dhabi’s Electricity and Water Sector

H.E. Mohammed bin Jarsh Al Falasi:
• Continuous development is an essential ingredient in our work culture across the
entire energy sector in Abu Dhabi
• Our principles and objectives revolve around empowering the sector and keeping
up with international trends and developments
• A working and following up committee will be formed comprising representatives
from all companies working in customer services

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), the government entity in charge of ensuring the energy sector’s excellence and sustainability in the emirate, organised a workshop at its headquarters to review and update regulations for the emirate’s electricity and water sector.

The workshop was attended by representatives from licensed companies in water, electricity, and sanitation sectors, namely, Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (TRANSCO), Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, Al Ain Distribution Company, and Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company. The agenda included discussing plans and regulations in effect in the sector, reviewing strategies, and minimising regulatory burdens, in line with the Department’s strategy to achieve economic, environmental, and social sustainability, and build a robust and open economy in line with the Abu Dhabi Plan 2030.

"Continuous development is an essential ingredient in our approach and work culture, which is embedded across the entire energy sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Our principles and objectives revolve around empowering the energy sector and keeping up with international trends and developments. We succeeded, over the past period, in making a significant leap forward in terms of enhancing coordination and integration of roles among the various companies licensed by DoE. We look forward to embracing those positive results and momentum created by such successes to drive energy sector frontward, and increase its contribution to sustainable development efforts, in line with the vision of our wise leadership," said HE Eng. Mohammed Juma bin Jarsh Al Falasi, Undersecretary of DoE.

"The main objective of this workshop is to review the regulatory requirements, and lessen the burden on licensed companies in customer service. This, in turn, enhances productivity and accelerates our journey towards achieving the desired results. We will continue working hand-in-hand with our partners to provide high-quality services for customers as per the world’s best quality standards, by adopting the latest technologies and innovative solutions," concluded Al Falasi.

The list of regulations set to be reviewed and upgraded includes power supply instructions, water service delivery instructions, damage reporting instructions, and water quality maintenance instructions, among others.
